Google Adds Query Groups to Search Console Insights

Google has introduced Query Groups in the Search Console Insights report, a new feature that automatically groups similar search queries. This feature makes it easier for website owners to understand the main topics their audience is searching for without sifting through a long list of individual queries.

Google explained the new feature, stating, “We are excited to announce Query groups, a powerful Search Console Insights feature that groups similar search queries.” The goal is to provide a more organized and high-level view of search queries by grouping related terms. Google emphasized that this change is based on AI, and the groups may evolve over time, though they won’t affect ranking.

How It Works

Instead of displaying a cluttered list of individual search queries, Query groups will now show broad clusters of similar queries. For example, search terms like “search engine optimization,” “SEO optimization,” “SEO website,” and other variations would be grouped under a single “SEO” category. This allows site owners to track broad trends more easily.

In one example, a site saw a 9% drop in clicks for SEO-related queries, clearly highlighted by the “SEO” group.

Availability

The feature is being rolled out gradually over the next few weeks and will appear as a new card in the Search Console Insights report. It will be available to sites with a high volume of queries, as grouping is less beneficial for sites with fewer search queries.

Why It Matters

For many SEO professionals, grouping search queries manually has been a time-consuming task. With this new feature, Google makes it easier for both beginners and seasoned professionals to quickly grasp the main topics driving traffic to their site, without needing external tools or manual grouping.

Summary

Google’s new Query Groups feature in Search Console Insights provides an AI-powered way to group similar search queries, offering a clearer view of audience interests. The feature is rolling out in the coming weeks and is designed to help site owners, especially beginners, track search trends more efficiently.
